We have an opening for Librarian 1 (Cataloging & Metadata) at our Chattanooga State campus!
The role will be responsible for the following:
-Assists with planning and decision making related to the work of the library’s technical services department acquisitions, serials, cataloging, and materials processing) in consultation with the Library Systems and Emerging Technologies Librarian.
-Assists in providing leadership and direction in Cataloging & Metadata -Performs original and complex adaptive cataloging of materials in many formats.
-Maintain quality control of authority and item records in the library catalog.
-Responsible for catalog maintenance and cataloging operations including but not limited to bulk import of data for electronic resources .
-Plans and supervises reclassifications, weeding and withdrawals.
-Develop cataloging policies, procedures, and workflow for processing and organizing library collections using current national cataloging/metadata best practices and current standards (i.e.
RDA). -Trains and supervises library staff in the technical services department -Teach library instruction classes in assigned subject field and participate in the library’s departmental liaison program.
-Serves on the Library’s Service Desk in assisting patrons.
-Compile statistical data and reports as needed including but not limited to productivity statistics and reports needed IPEDS, ALA, ABET, etc.)
-Promote, support, and participate in student recruitment and retention efforts -Perform other job-related duties as assigned
-Education and training: An American Library Association (ALA) accredited Master’s Degree in Library Science Work Experience: At least three years full-time library experience in cataloging/metadata in an academic library; must have experience in supervising full time staff.
-Must be adaptive and work well in a collegial environment.
-Experience in cataloging/metadata/data imports, exports and editing in ALMA.
-Fluency in Metadata manipulation -Conversant with MarcEdit or other data editors.
-Knowledge of RDA, XML and EXCEL
