We have an opening for Assistant Librarian 1 at our Chattanooga State campus!
The role will be responsible for the following:
--Plan and teach classes relevant to specific course assignments or subject areas.
Collaborate with faculty on integration of information literacy skills in their courses.
--Develop an understanding of the curriculum and program goals of assigned liaison areas to support the needs of students, faculty, and staff, including teaching library instruction, selecting relevant materials, attending departmental advisory meetings as needed.
--Create guides, videos, tutorials, and other materials to support course information literacy outcomes.
--Evaluate and select materials to facilitate access to current and credible information in the library?s print and electronic collections.
Continually evaluate collection to maintain its relevance to the college?s curriculum and goals.
--Proactively support faculty professional development by facilitating access to professional literature and providing individual research help.
--Provide reference and research help at the Library Service Desk to a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and community members via individual consultation in person, on the phone, chat, or email.
Assist users in finding, evaluating, and using information to satisfy their research needs.
--Serve on library working groups, primarily the Reference, Instruction, and Collections team and others as assigned.
--Demonstrate commitment to ongoing professional development, particularly in areas of information literacy, pedagogy/teaching and learning, and educational technology.
--Promote, support, and participate in student recruitment and retention efforts.
--Perform other job-related duties as assigned.Position Requirements:
--Education and training: Must have an American Library Association (ALA) Accredited Master?s Degree in Library Science (MLIS or Equivalent).
--Knowledge of current instruction pedagogy involving student engagement though active learning and in conjunction with established student learning outcomes.
--Demonstrated skill at providing outstanding reference and research help in a library setting.
--Proficiency with using and interpreting various library databases.
--Ability to provide basic technical assistance with computers and software, the internet, course management software, and standard office applications.
--Excellent interpersonal skills crucial to providing services to the public and working with others, including (but not limited to) flexibility, enthusiasm, confidentiality, attention to detail, team player, and open-mindedness.
--Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a collaborative and diverse environment.
--In addition to the ALA Accredited Master?s Degree in Library Science (MLIS or Equivalent), preference will be given to those with additional education or experience in allied health, nursing or similar fields.
--Two or more years of demonstrated library instruction experience.
--Knowledge and demonstrated use of current and emerging technologies related to library and/or instruction.
--Education or Experience with instructional design.
