Typical Physical and Working Conditions:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
Involves standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
May be exposed to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
Requires vision and hearing correctable to normal range.
Requires working under stressful conditions.
Assume primary responsibility for preparation of dialysis equipment, and appropriately quality assurance checks on equipment.
Greet patients and prepares them for dialysis treatments.
Measure vital signs and weights. Initiate and program dialysis treatment plans.
Prepare the internal vascular access. Perform venipunctures.
Seeks assistance with problematic venipunctures when appropriate.
Initiate and discontinues dialysis treatment.
Routinely monitor the dialysis procedure.
Identify problems or complications readily and reports them promptly.
Observe, record and report patient’s condition, complaints, and unusual reactions to the charge nurse immediately.
Collect and prepare blood and other body fluids for laboratory analysis according to physician order.
Review current and next day’s schedule.
Proactively prepare for work assignments.
Perform documentation in the medical record according to facility policy and professional requirements.
Perform effectively in emergency situations.
Stock dialysis unit and carts with supplies according to established criteria.
Assist with inventory procedures as needed.
Remove biohazard waste from the unit regularly as assigned.
Perform shutdown procedures for dialysis machines and water treatment equipment.
Maintain strictest confidentiality. Demonstrate appropriate professional behavior and boundaries during interactions with patients, staff and outside agencies.
Demonstrate a sincere concern for the well fare of the patients and the overall success of the facility.
Work with nurse manager to ensure the unit site and staff comply with fire, safety and occupational exposure regulations and procedures.
Maintain equipment in good working order.
Report needs for repair/replacement promptly.
Attendance is regular and punctual. Attend required meetings and participates in committees or teams as requested.
Participate in professional development activities to increase and improve professional knowledge and skills.
Maintain active CPR and patient care technician certifications.
Perform other related tasks and duties as reasonably required.
Assist with New Employee Orientation.
