We have an opening for Police Officer 1 (40 hpw) at our Chattanooga State campus!
The role will be responsible for the following:
-Maintain law enforcement and security for campus properties, staff, students, and visitors; patrol campus areas by foot and/or motor vehicle; direct and control pedestrian and vehicle traffic; issue tickets for traffic and parking violations; lock/unlock buildings at scheduled or requested times; operate and maintain law enforcement equipment including communication equipment; investigate accidents/incidents by conducting inquiries and inspecting and observing conditions involving persons, facilities, etc.
; prepare oral and/or written records of investigations; pursue appropriate course of action; provide assistance to staff, students, and visitors as needed, such as unlocking or jump-starting vehicles, providing escorts to vehicles, etc.
-Provide legal documentation of law enforcement procedures; keep daily log of tickets, accident reports, use of law enforcement equipment, compile information into official reports as needed; testify in court or legal proceeding; maintain P.O.S.T.
certification -Promote, support, and participate in student recruitment and retention efforts -Perform other job-related duties as assignedPosition Requirements:
-Education/training and work experience: High School Diploma or GED and five years work experience in security or police work OR Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge: Knowledge of legal methods, equipment, and procedures involving law enforcement, investigations, and court proceedings; occupational hazards and safety procedures -Skills: Oral and written communication skills consistent with reading; understanding and following instructions, laws, regulations, policies, procedures; speaking clearly and concisely; summarizing and justifying effectively; eliciting feedback and listening attentively; and preparing written reports; interpersonal skills consistent with obtaining facts and making observations through firm, tactful, and respectful regard for the rights of others; maintaining confidentiality, flexibility, and open-mindedness and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships -Abilities: Ability to operate security equipment, to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations, to determine proper course of action by exercising good judgment
