MEDICAL ASSISTANT CLINIC LEAD

Responsibilities Children's Diagnostic Associates
Job Summary / Purpose Under the direction of the Practice Manager and health care provider, the Medical Assistant Lead takes a leadership role in the department, acting as a trainer, resource and mentor for other Medical Assistants and staff.
Accurately preforms preliminary physical tests such as: measures blood pressure, records weight, temperature, pulse and respirations and other measures as directed by established clinical protocols.
Involves extensive interaction with diverse populations including patients, family members and all members of the healthcare team.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities Direct and guide back office staff in monitoring and expediting workflow.
Handle medical supply inventory, orders, and cost control.
Perform general patient care by following established standards and procedures.
Greet and prepare patients for the health care provider.
Obtain and record vital signs and other appropriate information, such as height, weight, drug allergies, current medications and presenting problem.
May be required to draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
Administer ordered medications via, oral, topical, rectal, otic, ophthalmic, and/or inhaled.
Administer vaccines via oral, topically, by injection, and/or nasal administration.
Schedule patients for diagnostic testing and follows up to ensure completion of testing.
Prepare, clean and sterilize instruments and maintain equipment; keep patient exam rooms clean and orderly; dispose of contaminated items according to protocol.
Communicate with patient regarding test results and plan of care by phone or mail as directed by physician.
Formulate and document patient care plans, charts, tests and examination results in the medical record.
Escalate non-routine issues to the practice manager or physician.
Work with healthcare provider to facilitate training of new hires and other training initiatives.
Perform other duties as assigned by practice manager or physician
Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required.
Successfully completed Medication Aide 40-hour course or current/valid Medication Aide certification by state agency required if applicable.
May require specialized training such as Non-Certified Radiologic Technician (NCT).
Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Care Life Support (ACLS) required.
Current/valid Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification required or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required if applicable.
Ability to accurately perform EKGs, draw blood and administer injections.
Ability to effectively communicate to staff and patients both verbally and in written form.
Demonstrate knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.
Thorough knowledge of the meaning and use of medical terminology and abbreviations.
Demonstrate sound judgment and composure with the ability to take appropriate action in questionable or emergency situations.
Demonstrate respect and compassion towards patients, family members and all members of the healthcare team.
Good computer skills using a medical management application.4 years Medical Assistant experience required.
