We have an opening for Tutor, Reading and Writing at our Chattanooga State campus!
The role will be responsible for the following:
Develop a positive and supportive relationship with students needing additional academic assistance in reading or writing courses •Promote independent learning of each student participating in tutoring session •Provide one-on-one reading and writing assistance to students referred or seeking assistance with course content or course completion expectations •Monitor student’s learning strategies and provide assistance developing more effective methods of skills-building •Work with students at any phase of the writing process, such as brainstorming, drafting, revision, and editing •Communicate with instructors as needed regarding student progress and areas of concern
Bachelor’s Degree •Experience working with students in an academic setting •Ability to work with college students of diverse ethnic backgrounds •Knowledge of basic academic skills application and the ability to demonstrate the successful application of various academic skills •Proficiency in word processing programs and basic internet use; ability to learn internet platforms (such as course management tools) quickly with training •Positive interpersonal skills; a commitment to building constructive relationships with students, faculty, staff and administrators
•Bachelor’s degree in English and/or experience teaching English; familiarity with MLA format •Experience working with adult learners
