Distribution Coordinator
The Chattanooga Times Free Press, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, is seeking an Distribution Coordinator for its Circulation Department. This is a safety-sensitive position.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Distribution Coordinator position has four focus areas centered around Readership Audience:
- Publication Distribution. Within the defined District geography, ensures effective delivery of all Times Free Press publications to targeted distribution points and subscriber households.
- Readership Growth. Through quality customer service, grows readership and customer satisfaction of Times Free Press free and subscription publications.
- Carrier Management. Identify, contract, train and hold accountable independent contractors to efficiently distribute Times Free Press publications within the assigned District, and assist in other districts as needed.
- iPad Subscriber Services. By appointment, deliver iPads to subscribers and train them how to use the device, as well as pick up or swap subscriber iPads as needed.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITLIES:
Manages successful distribution of publications in assigned area of operation. Through effective management of independent contractors, the Audience Distribution Coordinator works to complete successful delivery of all Times Free Press products, including Sunday Home delivery, single copy sales, Community News and any other publications as directed. In the absence of independent contractors, the Audience Distribution Coordinator must deliver newspapers effectively to subscriber households and retailers. Additionally, the Audience Distribution Coordinator will regularly distribute Times Free Press magazines and other periodicals to targeted distribution points. The Audience Distribution Coordinator job requires that the employee safely operates their vehicle on the interstates, highways, public streets/roads, private roads, and driveways as needed.
Increases readership by identifying and developing new subscribers. Responsible for increasing the number of subscribers in their areas. Sales assignments may be issued by a manager.
Provides customer service as needed. Responsible for handling customer complaints by contacting subscribers or non-subscribers by phone or in person to resolve customer issues effectively. This will also require direct contact with carriers to communicate the nature of the issue in order to resolve it in a timely manner.
Evaluates and ensures compliance of “Independent Contractor Distribution Agreement.” Responsible for contracting independent contractors for delivery of physical newspapers. Responsible for ensuring independent contractor compliance with the Times Free Press “Independent Contractor Distribution Agreement.” Responsible for accurate accounting procedures of contractors and collecting payments from contractors if needed. Must maintain subscriber and contractor information in the Circulation Systems; must provide support services to contractors as needed.
Manages iPad Distribution Responsible for distribution and retrieval of iPads from subscribers. Required to provide customer service to digital subscribers as needed including but not limited to training subscribers on the use of the iPad/digital subscription and diagnosing/managing technical issues.
Working hours include a split shift. Because excellent delivery of the Sunday print newspaper is crucial to the company, Audience Distribution Coordinators work a split shift during the week.
- Monday through Thursday 830 am to 530 pm
- Saturday beginning at 11 pm until completion of Sunday delivery management
Good attendance is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED.
TRANSPORTATION:
Must possess or be able to obtain a VALID Driver’s License.
Must provide own immediate, dependable transportation (mileage reimbursable).
Must provide company with proof of automobile insurance when requested.
Driving record must meet the requirements set in the “Personal Vehicles Used for Company Business” policy.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Carrying newspaper or magazine bundles weighing up to 35 pounds, 30 feet, up to 100 times per day, i.e., unloading a truck or stacking papers or magazines.
Walking up to 6 hours per day on a variety of surfaces. Walking up and down flights of stairs.
Sitting up to 4 hours.
Seeing well enough to drive safely in both daylight and nighttime conditions. Seeing well enough to read a delivery list in dim light.
Standing up to 6 hours per day on a concrete surface. Bending, kneeling, and twisting movements are required. Finger dexterity is required. Wrist movement is required.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
May be exposed to all weather conditions and must traverse varied terrain while on routes. This position is routinely exposed to loud noises, bright lights and/or glare.
ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION:
This position reports to the Audience Director.
This position coordinates a varied number of contractors.
