Court Clerk
The City of Red Bank has an immediate opening for Court Clerk.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position, responsible for general sessions court functions within the City of Red Bank and administering court management systems that integrate with other courts and agencies across the state and beyond.
JOB OVERVIEW
The right candidate will provide: Ability to perform a wide variety of complex clerical, administrative and financial support work for the Municipal Court in compliance with state regulations in support of the Municipal Court Judge.
Supervision Received: The employee works under the general supervision of the City Manager. On occasion, independent judgment must be used to accomplish tasks. Supervision Exercised: Supervises and directs the Deputy Court clerk.
Salary and Benefits:
(G7) $53,500.00 annually - Day Shift M-F 8:30a-4:30p + excellent benefits.

To be eligible to apply, applicants MUST:
- Be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Be a high school graduate or equivalent.
- Be a citizen of the United States.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Not have been convicted of, or plead guilty to, or entered a plea of nolo contender to any felon charge or to any violation of any federal or state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substances.
- Not have been released or discharged under anything other than an honorable discharge from any armed forces of the United States.
After having met the above requirements, candidates must successfully complete the following:
- Oral interview board composed of a combination of departmental members.
- A comprehensive background check, including but not limited to, criminal, financial, and personal history.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in administering criminal proceedings and docketing.
- Prepares correspondence and maintains records.
- Processes deferrals, jail sentences, probations, pre-sentence matters.
- Assists in the coordination of court matters with defendants, defense counsel, City Prosecutor, police department, jail, alcohol agencies and other levels of the criminal justice administration system.
- Receipts, accounts for and deposits monies for bail, fines, forfeitures and other court penalties and fees.
- Prepares court dockets and files; checks with jails for special hearings.
- Receives, logs and indexes incoming filings, citations and complaints and enter data into the computer.
- Responds to counter, telephone and written inquiries.
- Initiates related paperwork as needed by defendants to facilitate their response to a citation or complaint.
- Performs initial filing of all papers, dockets, index cards, case files, dispositions and case related correspondence.
- Processes Failure to Pay, Failure to Comply, and Failure to Appear notices.
- Constructs new case filings, filing and retrieving documents as necessary.
- Prepares and maintains appropriate calendars; schedules court hearings.
- Prepares files for court use; processes timely notices to defendants of arraignments, trials and hearings.
- Responds to requests for criminal records.
- Responds to requests from the Municipal Judge, City Prosecutor, Police Department and others for assistance and information; processes discovery activity required from the office.
- Must be available to respond to request for cash bonds after hours and weekends.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES
- Assist other personnel or departments as needed and other duties as assigned.
- Composes, inputs and edits a variety of correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other material requiring judgment as to content, accuracy, and completeness.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Graduation from a high school, including or supplemented by courses in general office practices and typing, or GED equivalent with specialized course work in general office practices such as typing, accounting, data processing, and
- Three (3) years of increasingly responsible related experience, or
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of computers and electronic data processing; working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
- Proficiency in operating listed tools and equipment.
- Ability to perform arithmetic computations accurately and quickly; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish successful working relationships; ability to work under pressure and/or frequent interruptions.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be bondable.
- Must participate in the Municipal Technical Advisory Service (MTAS) Municipal Court Clerk (MCC) Certificate Program and obtain the MCC Certificate within 5 years of employment.
- Must participate in the Tennessee Association of Municipal Clerks and Recorders (TAMCAR) annual conferences at least twice in any five-year window.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Ability to operate a telephone, cellular phone, fax machines, and copiers. Must also have the ability to operate computers, printers, computer systems, computer and networking tools, computer cables, and troubleshooting tools. Potential use of Motor vehicles, access control systems, and security camera systems.
