City Planner & Codes Enforcement Officer
PURPOSE
This position serves as the enforcing personnel for municipal code provisions not under general police jurisdiction, including all building, health, and safety chapters. The Code Enforcement Officer also serves on City boards as detailed below. (FLSA: Exempt).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required or assigned.
Serve as advisor and staff support to Sweetwater Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals
Coordinating and conducting site plan/plat reviews for conformance with city codes and sound planning practices, conducting site inspections, reviewing drawings, applications and related documentation for compliance with ordinances
Works with Mayor to develop, coordinate, and maintain an annexation plan Serve as grant writer/resource for the city
Address questions and concerns from citizens regarding planning and zoning issues
Administer flood regulations and assure city compliance with flood program requirements
Determine and issue building permits, excavation permits and application of zoning and land use requirements
Serve as city safety officer and administer the safety program per ordinance
Enforce codes relative to health and sanitation, slum clearance, junk vehicles, refuse, and trash disposal, animal control, weeds and noxious growth, and building and plumbing codes
Supervises, directs and evaluates assigned staff or personnel
Manages administrative activities of the department including budget and compliance
Attends professional conferences and seminars to maintain knowledge of the laws, policies and practices pertinent to the field
Attend monthly meetings of Mayor and Board of Commissioners and Sweetwater Planning Commission

Member of the Sweetwater Tree Board Member of Economic Development Board Other duties may be assigned
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in planning, public administration, or related field required with one to two years experience; knowledge and proficiency in operation of personal computers; certification as building inspector or obtain within one year of hire; ability to communicate with supervisors, members of the public, and elected and appointed officials. Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee driver's license. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and ability for this position can be considered.
