The College: Cleveland State Community College is a fully-accredited public comprehensive community college committed to quality education and open access. The college operates within the governance of the Tennessee Board of Regents and approved by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission.
CSCC celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017. Its mission focuses upon responsive delivery of the highest quality education and training at the lowest possible cost in support of workforce development, liberal arts transfer and cultural enrichment for the people of Bradley, McMinn, Meigs, Monroe and Polk Counties.
The college enrolls more than 3,000 credit students and 1,500 non-credit students in a typical fall semester. The credit student population is split about evenly in the choice of transfer or career-technical programs. The average age of all students is 28 years. All persons are welcome at Cleveland State, and the student population is nonracially identifiable.
There are over 200 employees at the college, including more than 75 full-time faculty members. Ninety-one percent of the faculty hold master's or doctor's degrees.
Situated in the scenic corridor of hills and valleys of southeast Tennessee, Cleveland State presents an attractive atmosphere in which to enjoy varied facets of an educational experience. The community offers an abundance of service facilities and recreational opportunities. The college is located between Exits 25 and 27 on Interstate 75, thirty miles northeast of Chattanooga.
The 105-acre campus has 11 major buildings housing modern classrooms, laboratories and student activity centers. Additional features include an excellent library, a multimedia production studio, dynamic classrooms, computer laboratories, a 400-seat theatre, a 3,000-seat gymnasium, athletic fields, a small business development center, a workforce readiness center, and a full-service student center with cafeteria, bookstore and student lounge areas. In addition, the college recently opened the new state-of-the-art Health and Science Center, the first new academic building for the college in over 46 years.
The college also maintains off-site locations to serve students in the northern service area. The college offers a wide selection of credit and non-credit courses at the new McMinn Higher Education Center in Athens and at the Monroe County Center in Vonore. In addition, many college support services are available at these sites, as well.

Coordinator of Student Life
FLSA Status: Exempt
As part of the Student Services Division, the Coordinator of Student Life is responsible for the administration of student activities and student life programs for a diverse student body. The primary focus of this position is to develop and implement programs and activities which enhance student engagement and development through out-of-class activities in accordance with the mission, core values, and purposes of Cleveland State Community College. This person is expected to work in cooperation with staff in other Student Services units, faculty and staff from other areas of the college, and staff from community agencies and groups to plan and implement extra- and co-curricular programs.
Essential Job Functions:
Coordinate and administer the student activities program for the college, including student events and related activities both in Cleveland and at off-campus sites.
Work with faculty to create and support academic teams to represent the college in appropriate competitions at the state, regional, and national level.
Oversee and provide support for student clubs/organizations to ensure availability of a variety of organizations to meet students’ interests; serve as Advisor to Student Senate.
Plan and implement programs relevant for student development and student needs, with a focus on increasing student engagement through out-of-class programming.
Create and maintain a comprehensive calendar of student activities for the college.
Coordinate student orientation programs, consulting with staff and faculty to ensure that programs meet student needs and support college initiatives.
Serve as chair of the Student Government Activity Fee committee and assist the Vice President in managing the Student Government Activity Fee budget of approximately $100,000.
Design and implement leadership development programs for students to provide opportunities for improving and practicing leadership skills.
Create and follow appropriate policies and procedures to ensure that programs and activities are implemented in accordance with best practices regarding risk management.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements of the Position:
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university required.
Three years’ experience in education, student life, student activities, or related field.
Preferred Requirements:
Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university preferred.
Critical Skills/Expertise/Experience:
Strong and effective interpersonal skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including skills for teaching, public speaking, and public relations.
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Knowledge of comprehensive community college concept
Program planning and assessment skills
Ability to work with a diverse student population
Demonstrated proficiency with various software packages including Microsoft office suite
Job Location:
The main campus of Cleveland State Community College is the primary workplace. Occasional travel to the college’s McMinn and Monroe County Centers and community agencies is required. This position may require some evening/weekend hours. This position is primarily in-person, but occasional remote work may be required.
