Director of Nursing
Tenure-track, 12-month
The Director of Nursing provides leadership to the faculty in the Nursing Department and is responsible to the Dean of Business and Healthcare for all academic, personnel, and budget concerns in the Department.
Essential Job Functions:
Leads the nursing faculty in planning, implementing and evaluating the nursing curriculum.
Acts as a liaison for the faculty to the college, college administration, State Board of Nursing, Accrediting Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and the community in matters pertaining to the nursing program.
Assists the Dean of Business and Healthcare in recruitment and selection of new faculty members.
Recommends retention and promotion with rank of faculty to the Dean using faculty evaluations as a basis.
Plans orientation program for new faculty members.
With the assistance of the full-time faculty, recruits, assigns, and evaluates adjunct faculty
Recommends and oversees the annual budget of the nursing program to the Dean.
Recommends expenditures and reviews faculty budgetary requests.
Supervises Simulation and Lab Skills Coordinator and provides oversight for budgetary requests.
Recommends to the Dean nursing class and clinical scheduling.
Approves community agencies used for clinical experiences and keeps contracts with the clinical agencies.
Prepares class schedules for each semester.
Submits annual goals for the Department. Prepares mid-year and annual reports on progress toward those goals.
Provides leadership to the faculty in documenting improvements in student learning based on the analysis of assessment results and enters this information into planning software.
Provides leadership to the faculty in the incorporation of technology and active learning strategies (service learning, cooperative learning, critical thinking, learning communities, problem-based learning, and strategies based on the assessment of learning styles/preferences) into their courses.
Approves team requests for textbooks (including digital texts and software), periodicals, and audiovisuals.
Maintains and communicates necessary academic records and reports as required.
Conducts classroom lectures and clinical experiences as appropriate.
Recommends curriculum changes to the Curriculum & Academic Standards Committee and to TBR as required.
Advises students referred from instructors concerning academic problems and refers students to appropriate personnel for other problems.
Holds conferences with students and instructors for violations of policies.
Participates in recruitment and selection of students.
Works with the Dean and faculty to derive optimal benefit from advisory committees.
Serves as an academic advisor.
Encourages and promotes grant-writing among faculty and participates in collaborative grant proposals and articulations with area universities.
Represents the faculty, staff, and students in the department, within the College and represents the College in the community.
Participate in appropriate college committees and participate to an appropriate level in administrative decision making.
Represents the college at assigned statewide meetings.
Performs such additional duties as assigned.
The incumbent will be required to meet those standards now required or which may in the future be required by the Tennessee Board of Nursing, the Tennessee State Board of Regents and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Requirements of the Position:
Master’s degree in nursing. Earned doctorate preferred.
Credentials verifying legal status as a registered nurse in the state of Tennessee and professional liability insurance.
Professional experience that includes a minimum of two years teaching experience in nursing education, preferably Associate Degree level. Experience in Nursing Education administration preferred.
Job Location:
Cleveland State Community College, Cleveland, Tennessee is the primary place of employment. The position occasionally requires visits to off-campus teaching sites and attendance at meetings and conferences called by state governing boards and commissions or otherwise deemed appropriate for requirements for the position.
