Cleveland Utilities Authority, a municipal utility providing electric, water, wastewater and fiber
services to the Cleveland, Tennessee/Bradley County area, is seeking a Fiber Engineer. This
position will provide technical guidance and direct supervision of the design, engineering,
construction, and maintenance of plant infrastructure of underground and aerial fiber optic
installations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Determine scope, budget, and schedule for existing and new outside plant projects.
• Responsible for producing detailed engineering plans, costs, and project schedules for various projects
that benefit internal and external customers.
• Possess proper knowledge of AutoCAD and other software applications to create engineered design
packages.
• Responsible for the adherence to industry standards regarding construction and maintenance of the entire
outside plant.
• Responsible for supervising outside contractors working on the fiber system.
• Responsible for purchase orders and contracts required for work done by contractors on the fiber system.
• Develop aerial and underground fiber route maps and tasks such as route analysis.
• Responsible for fiber optic verification and all cable route mapping activities.
• Maintain records of all fiber cable splicing and routes utilizing designated software.
• Provide contingency plans in case of emergency restoration including redundant routes and necessary
materials on hand.
• Provide support for other departments within the company to facilitate any company improvements
regarding fiber installation.
• Ability to use fiber optic tools for installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance including OTDR, power
meter and light source, etc.
• Provide advice to the manager of engineering and the manager of the electric division concerning any
phase of the operation of the system and recommend changes which may benefit employees or the
system or may improve service rendered to the customer.
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s Degree (from an accredited four-year college) preferred; two-year technical degree required.
Field of study: Electronic/fiber engineering or related engineering field.
• Ten plus years of experience in fiber optic plant design/installation.
• Microsoft Office, Microstation/AutoCAD.
• Professional Engineers License is desirable but not required.
• A valid Class “D” Tennessee Driver’s License.
• Available to work after hours when needed and perform call duty.
