re: Business Services Representative

In collaboration with the local Workforce Development board, the Southeast Tennessee Development District is seeking a Business Services Representative to serve as Staff to the Board who desires meaningful work that directly impacts Southeast Tennessee’s prosperity, health, and quality of life. This position will interface with area businesses to assess workforce skill needs, identify resources, and discuss appropriate services provided by the public workforce system through Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) programs and other partnerships. The primary responsibility is to build and foster productive business relationships with employers and community organizations throughout our ten (10) county service area. This position will implement strategies that promote the economic development of individuals experiencing specific barriers to employment by promoting job training programs, marketing benefits and incentives for fair-chance hiring practices, scheduling workshops, and providing business assistance with talent pipeline development needs. Must have a good work ethic and the ability to work in a face-paced, challenging environment.

Desired Qualifications
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business information provided by professional journals, general media, and government (i.e. policies and procedures updates, labor trends, etc.). Ability to write reports, business correspondence and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the public. Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point, Adobe proficiency required.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to think critically, define and solve problems, collect data, establish factual framework, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.) in a related field is preferred, with at least one year of similar experience a combination of education and experience to have acquired the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively function in this role. Extensive knowledge of federal programs and WIOA legislation is preferred.
